soft shakes is something different: my first solo album, made entirely by myself, and mostly for fun.

With soft shakes, there was no plan, no expectation. Just a feeling to pick up an instrument, play, and see what might come up.

The whole experience was new. When I made music for the band, I always had a clear idea of who would play what. This time, it was just me. And somehow, that became the concept: doing it all myself, for the first time.

I recorded soft shakes between January and June 2024, in dark, rainy, quiet Rotterdam. Most mornings I would head to the studio, pick up whatever instrument nearby, and play around. It was a slow and instinctive process. If something still moved me the next day, I would add to it. If not, I would let it go and start fresh. One step at a time.

Even though it’s a solo record, the music doesn’t feel controlled or tight. I wanted it to feel loose, like jamming. Even if I was just jamming with myself.
